Outside of a drop in Netflix customer satisfaction following the hike in movie subscription rates, most ecommerce consumers were happy with services, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index's (ACSI) annual ecommerce report.

The report, produced in partnership with Foresee, was originally founded at the University of Michigan to rank customer satisfaction of products and services from 225 companies across 47 industries in the United States.

Satisfaction rates for ecommerce websites reached 80.1 on the ACSI index's 100-point scale, gaining 1 percent since last year's study.

"E-commerce continues to shine in satisfaction, seemingly regardless of economic conditions. It is no wonder the sector continues to grow when you consider that satisfied consumers are more likely to increase spending as their means allow," said Claes Fornell, founder of the ACSI.

Consumers have been spending more online. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that total ecommerce sales increased to $194.3 billion in 2011, up 16 percent, according to USA Today. Businesses can gain from sales growth by providing online shoppers with convenient online payment processing. A payment gateway that offers customers the same user-friendly interface as in-store terminals with increased security can increase satisfaction even further.
